HEALTHQUAL Swaziland

With a population of 1.1 million, Swaziland has the world's highest HIV prevalence (26.1%), and nearly half of all deaths of children under 5 is attributable to HIV/AIDS.

Leaders within the Ministry of Health have identified the great need for improving the quality of HIV care and services in Swaziland. With support from UNICEF, HEALTHQUAL was introduced in 2008; implementation began in 2009 with identification of the HEALTHQUAL-Swaziland team, and selection of 10 indicators and 30 Phase One facilities. Data collection will begin in 2010 and QI training provided to Phase One facility staff.
