I am writing with some exciting news about HEALTHQUAL. Beginning on October 1, HEALTHQUAL will formally join the Global Strategic Information group with Global Health Sciences at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). During this transition, our work will continue uninterrupted as part of the QICIP mechanism supported by HRSA through PEPFAR and HEALTHQUAL staff will continue in their current positions.
As many of you know, the HEALTHQUAL model began in 1992 as the New York State HIV Quality of Care Program at the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) AIDS Institute, later expanding throughout the United States with support from HRSA as HIVQUAL-US and the National Quality Center. HEALTHQUAL (then HIVQUAL-International) began with funding from PEPFAR in 2005; first working in Uganda and later expanding to countries throughout Africa, the Caribbean and Asia. For more than a decade, the NYSDOH has provided not only a home for HEALTHQUAL, but also a rich institutional history that we will continue to foster as this transition proceeds.
Over the last several years, we have collaborated closely with UCSF faculty and established programs on a number of innovative projects, building notable relationships that we look forward to cultivating moving forward. We are truly excited about HEALTHQUAL’s new ‘home’, and we look forward to the work ahead.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly with any questions about this transition, and I welcome you to read more about UCSF and Global Health Sciences here: http://globalhealthsciences.ucsf.edu/
